The
Tiki-Ti has
many exotic Tikis and an assortment of colorful items
from all over the world. If you didn't know better
you might think that it was a museum of Pop Polynesian
culture. After all it is just a small tropical watering
hole on the far end of Sunset Blvd.
So,
why is it standing room only
on Friday and Saturday nights? (And sometimes even
on Wednesdays & Thursdays) Why do people wait
outside in the cold for a cocktail? Why do people
not tell their friends about
the Tiki, just so they it won’t get too crowded?
Why do so many bartenders drink at the Tiki? What
is the fascination?
Well,
simply put, it’s the drinks.
Ray Buhen knew a thing or two about mixing tropical
drinks. He was one of a handful of Filipino bartenders
who help start the tropical drink craze in the early
thirties. His knowledge and understanding of tropical
drinks went way beyond recipes. Ray passed down a
tradition and understanding of tropical drinks that
lives on in his son Michael and his grandsons Mike and Mark.
We can’t impart to you that knowledge or even
serve you a drink on line, but we can give you a small
taste (pun intended) of what those famous drinks do
look like and a short description. With 94 drinks
on the current menu, we are still in the process of
taking pictures, so for now we have almost half of
them described.
You
have a choice of viewing them either by Alcohol
(Rum, Gin, etc.) or Alphabetically
by clicking on their respective buttons on the left
hand side. Each one opens up a new pop up window that
has a compete list on the right hand side. After that
you may want to visit our Old
Drink Menus: a collection of old menus
from the Tiki-Ti of days long past. Also from the
early days are our Old
Mugs: these are the original mugs once
used at the Tiki-Ti. Finally for those of you, who
just can’t make up their minds on what to drink,
check out The
Wheel. Use the Printable
Drink List to open up a new window that
you use to print out your own drink menu complete
with a check list for all the drinks you either want
to try or you want to try in the future.
BLOOD
& SAND
One
of our most popular and fun drinks on the menu.
